Utilities and Plant Engineering

Welcome to Utilities

Utilities Department is responsible for providing utilities for the university 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Safety, reliability and efficiency are key goals. Services include campus-wide utilities purchasing, generation, and distribution, as well as metering and billing energy consumption. Utilities operates the Central Power Plant (CPP) and NCRC Power Plant, which generate electricity and steam for campus and NCRC. Utilities staff maintain 300 miles of mostly underground utility systems, from outdoor lighting and high voltage circuits to water mains to steam piping in tunnels. Utilities is part of U-M Facilities & Operations.
